I came here thinking that I might get some nice photos in front of the river, but didn't expect there to be trails here. We actually got a nice 2 mile walk here. The trails are unmarked. The narrow trail climbed a hill and reached a clearing at the peak with good views of the river. It curved back down and around to lower ground and ran alongside the river. It curves around and runs adjacent to some fields on private property, before ending at a resedential neighborhood. We turned around and followed the path by the river back to the main park entrance. This is a nice place to go to take the dogs for a walk.

We didn't visit this place specifically...it intersects the Air-Line trail, so we diverted from that trail to do the part of the preserve that overlooks the Connecticut River.

The Air-Line trail is another one of those old railway lines converted to a multi-use trail. This one passes through many towns in the eastern part of the state. We've done some small segments of this trail. On this day, we walked the entire length of the trail in Portland, venturing into the East Hampton section.

As we were leaving Riverfront Park, we passed the Portland Brownstone Quarries Historic site. The site is now the home of Brownstone Exploration & Discovery Park. The park was closed but it's not a place to bring your dogs to anyway. We did stop the car to get out and take some photos. According to Wikipedia, the Brownstone mined in these quarries was used in historic buildings in cities like Chicago, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Hartford and New Haven.
