First, I won't even ask why East Hampton is actually west of Hampton. Secondly, I really thought my photo of the dogs in front of the half frozen lake was going to be great, but it was really kind of blah. It's hard to tell the lake is half frozen in the picture. And thirdly, I love the name of the lake...Lake Pocotopaug! This is a little park that has some access to the lake. There is a playground and a beach area.

The Air-Line trail is another one of those old railway lines converted to a multi-use trail. This one passes through many towns in the eastern part of the state. We've done some small segments of this trail. We walked the entire length of the trail in Portland, venturing into the East Hampton section. We returned in the fall coming in from the other direction, and walking from Colchester to the Sellew Preserve trail head.

This is a nature preserve owned by the Middlesex Land Trust. We reached the trail head from the Air Line trail. We checked out the beginning of the trail, but didn't explore any further because we had already walked over 2 miles and still needed to hike back to the car.

I usually use Google maps as the definitive source for what town we are in based on GPS coordinates, but Google says this is in Colchester. Every other source says East Hampton, so that's what I am going with. This is actually the start of the Salmon River Trail, one of the Blue Blazed trails maintained by the Connecticut Forest & Park Association. We were driving home from our hike for the day, so we only stopped to take some photos by the bridge and didn't walk on the trails.
