This park sits right off of the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail. This park features a restored 150 year old canal lock, the last one that exists from the canal days. We came here in April 2021 when we were first completing a visit to every town, and also walked the portion of the trail between Lock 12 and Brooksvale Park in Hamden. We came back again when we were completing the entire Cheshire section of the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail in September, and took some additional photos.

The trip on the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail through Cheshire took multiple days, and included historic Lock 12 Park. Click below to expand the section and read about the trips.
After completing the Southington section of the trail, we continued on to Cheshire. This first section of Cheshire wasn't very interesting compared to the Southington section. It features some large bridges over some roads and rivers, including I-691, but didn't have any of the character that the Southington section had.
We came back two days later, and covered the next two and a half miles (five mile walk round trip). The weather was perfect on this day, so we did a bit more than usual. This section features many informational signs that document the history of the trail in Cheshire.
We did the next portion in Cheshire on September 11th, the 20th anniversary of the terror attacks. This portion started at Dalton Industries and went to the Lock 12 Park. One of the benches we passed was dedicated to Mark Steven Jardim, who lost his life during the September 11th attacks. The bench was decorated in rememberance. I don't know who Mark was, but I was moved by the display.
We actually walked the last stretch of the trail in Cheshire back in April. We visited Lock 12 Park, and continued down the trail into Hamden and Brooksvale Park.

This is a pretty basic walk in the woods. We hiked a loop trail that encircled the property. The highlight was the six deer we saw near the stream. They were pretty far away and behind a few rows of trees so I couldn't get a good picture. They did a really nice job blending in with the brush! Once Mandy saw them, she started to bark and the deer took off.

The town of Cheshire has a very nice park here. The playground was impressive. I never had access to anything like this when I was a kid! This is also the location of the town's indoor pool. There's a half mile stone dust loop on one side of the park. We combined that with walking around the athletic fields and the gazebo, and were able to get a good mile and a half walk in here.
