This a really nice park in Westfield, MA. There are a lot of great photo opportunities around the main part of the park. There are many ducks, geese and swans around the duck pond. Some of the swans were a bit mean, hissing at the dogs. I guess they expected me to feed them. There is an entire series of trails around the small river as well. We walked a loop trail that was about two and a half miles. The trails are well maintained and easy to navigate. I was really impressed with this place.

The Columbia Greenway is a mult-use multi-town path along the site of the old canal that ran from New Haven, CT to Northampton, MA. The Westfield section is the northern most part of the middle section, as there is a gap between Westfield and where the Manhan Rail Trail begins in Southampton. They are actively working on expanding the trail in Westfield. The expansion northward is scheduled to open later in 2021. The section includes a number of new and re-vitalized bridges, so we will definitely return when they are done. We walked around the sections of Westfield that will be home to the trail in the future as well. I love the picture of the dogs on the fountain.
It took two extra years, but the central section has finally opened. It opened on 9/7/2023, and we visited 12 days later. This section is just shy of a mile, and includes five new or revitalized bridges over city streets. There are three smaller bridges, and two larger bridges, one over Main Street, and the other over Elm Street. This section connects to the Westfield River Bridge, which we visited on our first trip here (three years prior). This new section of bike trail is very nice. It's not often we get to walk on a trail that is less than weeks two weeks old! There is still a large gap in the trail between the Westfield River Bridge and the Manhan Rail Trailhead in Southampton. There's also a portion of the trail in New Haven currently under construction, which hopefully we will get to check out soon.

This is a park we reached via a connecting trail on our visit to the new central section of the Columbia Greenway. The stone dust "Westfield River Trail" borders the park along a raised ridge, probably once used for a railway line. The park includes two baseball fields, and a playground. There is also access to the Westfield River as well.
