We continued our Appalachian Trail adventure from Canaan, as the trail followed a road for about a quarter mile, then over the Falls Village bridge into Salisbury. We walked the next short segment which ran along side the west side of the Housatonic and took a side trail down to the river by the smooth rocks. This part of the trail wasn't quite as nice...it seemed just like any old hiking trail, but the stone steps were pretty cool.

I didn't realize it at the time, but last year when we were on the Appalachian Trail, we were less than a half mile away from Great Falls. Some reviews of the falls online call them the Niagara Falls of Connecticut. There is a man made dam that feeds the falls, and in the spring they let more water through so the falls really flow. While the falls were impressive, I don't think they were flowing that intensely for our visit. There are some crazy trails (part of which I believe is the Appalachian Trail), with rocks to climb to get from the top of the falls to the bottom. It was a fun visit.
