The Appalachian Trail has to be one of the most famous trails, if not the most famous in the world. It is supposedly the longest hiking only trail in the world, running from Georgia to Maine. Since a part of it goes through Connecticut, I just had to incorporate it into my "Visit Every Town in Connecticut project"! As you can see in the sign in one of the pictures, we headed toward Georgia but we didn't have time to go all the way. This section in Canaan might be the easiest mile or two on the entire trail, as part of the portion we walked is designated "Universal Access". It is wheel-chair accessible (except for the spot where a tree had fallen over the trail and hadn't been cleared yet). This part of the trail is quite scenic as it hugs the east side of the Housatonic River. My favorite spot was "Dog Log". You write your dogs name on it in chalk that is provided. As you can see in the first picture, Mandy and Lexi have become part of Appalachian Trail lore... at least until somebody comes by and erases it, or it washes away! I thought it was really cool idea.

Dean's Ravine Falls

Date visited: 5/14/2022

This is a very nice waterfall, that required us to go down a very steep section of the Mohawak Trail to reach. The All-Trails app called the trail "easy", but I beg to differ. We took some photos at the bottom by the waterfall, before heading back up the steep trail. At one point I was climbing with my hands on the rocks. The dogs didn't have much of an issue because they are much lower to the ground than I am! We've been tackling harder trails of late, but this one was a real challenge.
