We hadn't been on an adventure in six days. Our wonderful February weather this year finally took a turn of the worse, and it was rainy and cold all week. It was warmer and sunnier in Westchester County New York, so we headed to this place. This is a really neat park that straddles the town line between the Valhalla section of Mount Pleasant and North Castle. There is an open grass area, and a promenade of sorts, in front of the very large dam. The west side of the park features a playground, while the east side of the park includes "The Rising", a 9/11 monument that honors the victims from Westchester County. Obviously, the main feature of the park is the dam. There are stairways on both sides of the dam, so we climbed to the top. There is an old road that runs right across the top of the dam that is closed to vehicular traffic. It is now just a pedestrian walk way. There are nice views from the top of the dam. I have to admit, climbing the stairs was a good workout. The climb is over 20 flights of the stairs. The dogs didn't really seem to have much issue with the climb. We did this after walking four miles on the Bronx River Pathway, that starts at this park. Needless to say, we made up for not being able to get out of the house in six days. Below are the pictures from the North Castle section of the park. Visit the Mount Pleasant page for pictures from that section.

This multi-use trail extends 11+ miles from Kensico Dam Plaza in Mount Pleasant, to Bronxville NY, right by the New York City line. According to the Westchester Parks Website, this is one of the oldest linear parks in the country. We walked the northern most two miles from the dam to just over the White Plains city line (Four miles in total out and back). This section weaves in and out of four different towns, but we didn't take any pictures in the short Mount Pleasant section. The trail runs parallel to the Bronx River Parkway, which itself runs parallel to the Bronx River. It's very urban, as the parkway is always in eye shot and ear shot. We were visiting here visiting Kensico Dam Plaza, but walked the trail first while waiting for the sun to come out. It was very overcast when we arrived, and I wanted to save the Dam for when it was brighter so the pictures would look nicer. The sun did come out while walking on this path.

This is a nice park for fishing in the pond, or having a picnic, but there wasn't much for us to do. There might be some trails, but if they were trails, they were muddy and washed out. It's a good place to just hang out, but not a great spot to take dogs for a walk.

This is a town park that features baseball and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, and a playground. It's a pretty typical town park. There's a very short walking trail. There is also quite a bit of road noise from I-684, which is just behind the tree line.

This is a shopping area in downtown Armonk - Armonk being a "hamlet" within the town of North Castle. Figuring out the New York municipalities can be confusing! We walked around the shopping area, and up and down Main Street, and also checked out Wampus Brook Park.

Not to be confused with Wampus Pond Park, Wampus Brook Park is a town park in the center of the Armonk section of town. The park has a series of walking trails, a gazebo, picnic areas, and a couple ponds. People were arriving for a free concert being held at the park, a Bruce Springsteen tribute acts called "Tramps Like Us". I was impressed because the pre-show music was the Umphrey's McGee album "Anchor Drops"! Anyway, we walked through the park, but didn't stay for the concert. Dogs generally don't like loud music. This is a pretty nice park, and a good place for a walk with your dogs.
