Waterbury

Holy Land USA

Dates visited: 4/2/2021 & 4/5/2021

Have you ever driven thru I-84 in Waterbury and wondered what the deal was with the cross on the hill? Well, that's Holy Land USA! You can drive up and walk around the monuments. There is a great view of Waterbury from the top of the hill as well. This place is in the All-Trails app, called "Pine Hill Loop" I think. Some of the momuments have deteriorated, and some of it's overgrown. It all could use a fresh coat of paint. We actually stopped here twice. The first time was Good Friday actually, but that was just a coincidence. It was a cloudy, cold, and overcast day. A few days later, I was driving through on the way back from other adventures, and decided to go back up when the skies were clearer, and re-take some of the photos.

Bucks Hill Park

Date visited: 10/24/2024

This is a surprisingly nice city park near the Wolcott border. The park features athletic fields, playgrounds, picnic areas, along with a series of trails through the woods. There are even real bathrooms, not port a johns, that were not only open, but clean as well. The trails are not well marked, but easy to follow even with the leaf cover. Not all of the trails appeared on my GPS enabled map. Even so, they are short and they all sort of loop around, so it would be hard to get lost.
