This is another great trail. We hiked the first mile and a half or so of the Mattatuck Trail, a 42 mile trail that starts at Peterson Park in Wolcott, and goes all the way to Cornwall. This section of the trail follows the Mad River, and it is very scenic. About a mile in, there is a nice area with cascades and some cool bridges. We took a lot of pictures at this spot. I especially liked the troll bridge. A lot of time and effort must have been spent building that! We continued a little further to the next set of cascades, before turning around and heading back.

This was an unplanned stop due to weather issues at our original destination. Of course, it was supposed to be "mostly sunny" here, but was overcast. Despite that, I intended on hiking the entire 2.8 mile loop trail. The terrain was rocky but manageable, until about a half mile in when the trail became too muddy to continue. It had rained earlier, and the recent warm-up caused melting which also added to the mud. We wound up turning around at that point. To be honest, the trail was pretty boring. This is probably a nice spot in the summer, when everything is green and dry, but it really wasn't doing it for me in the winter time.
