Weston

Sears Conservation Area

Date visited: 2/5/2024

We walked a mile and a half loop trail accessed from the Mass Central Rail Trail. The property is nice, filled with many pine trees, so it still looks pretty nice in the winter time. There is a very fancy bridge over a stream, as well as a spot that overlooks Weston Station Pond. The trails here are well maintained and marked, and were not muddy. This was an enjoyable walk.

Mass Central Rail Trail - Wayside

Date visited: 2/5/2024

This is the "Wayside" section of the Mass Central Rail Trail. We started at the trail-head on Church Street and headed east. Along the way, we checked out both the Sears Conservation Area and the Forbes Conservation Area, both which are accessible from the rail trail. The trail passes a solar farm before reaching what looks to be the end of the trail at an old railroad bridge. It is the end of the paved portion of the trail, but it continues over the bridge as a dirt trail, heading quickly into Waltham. I don't believe the portion with the bridge is officially open, but there isn't any "No Trespassing" or "Trail Closed" signs or anything. The railroad bridge has been retrofit with wood planks for easy walking.

Forbes Conservation Area

This is a very small conservation area accessed from the Mass Central Rail Trail, very near the Church Street trail head. We walked a very short loop trail. It was only about a quarter of a mile total.

Weston Town Green

Date visited: 2/5/2024

This is the area around the Weston Town Hall. The main grassy area is also known as Lanson Park. There are a number of historic buildings, with some nice paved walking trails and sidewalks, that give this spot a nice New England Town feel. We walked around here for about a mile after finishing our other adventures in the town.

Jericho Town Forest

Date visited: 2/17/2024

We reached here via the Mass Central Rail Trail, coming in from Wayland. We hiked a short loop trail before heading back to the main rail trail. It went from sunny skies to a major snow squall in four minutes. By the time we were back on the rail trail, it was really coming down! The snow stopped shortly after crossing back into Wayland.
