Old Bridge

Old Bridge Waterfront Park

Date visited: 6/17/2023

We wound up back in New Jersey a week after our last trip. The previous Sarturday, I lost my wallet. It was recovered! I had to pick it up at a police station where it was turned in completely in tact. Even the cash was there! There are some good people out there! Anyway, since we were back in New Jersey and it was partly sunny here (but quite hazy), while there was rain and thunder storms back home, we found a beach! This one is not quite as nice as Bayshore Waterfront Park or South Amboy Beach and Raritan Bay Waterfront Park. Theres a walking trail that alternates between paved sidewalk and wooden boardwalk that runs about a mile and a half along side the beach. The trail itself is nice. There's a section where people have hung painted shells with messages on a fence along side the trail. There's also an odd sign about not feeding the feral cats that live there. The problem is that most of the actual beach is closed. Most of the beach is fenced off with signs indicating that the sand and water is contaminated with lead poisoning. This is because lead was used in the man made seawall. This was not only disappointing, but worrisome as well....I mean are you sure the section of the beach that is open is safe? I hope so, because Mandy and Lexi went on the beach and in the water in the open section before we reached the closed portion of the beach. It was odd that the reviews of the place I read online failed to mention this. The walk was nice, but if you're looking for a dog friendly beach in this area, the other ones I mentioned here are better bets.
