Lynn Shore Reservation

Date visited: 11/30/2023

This is the area between Lynn Shore Drive and the shore line, from the Nahant border to the Swampscott border. It includes Lynn Beach, Red Rocks Park and King's Beach, as well as the walkway that connects to Nahant Beach Reservation and Swampscott. Lynn beach doesn't seem to exist. It was shortly after low tide, but the water was all the way to the seawall for 99% of the beach area. Steps from the walkway lead straight down to the water. There was some sand at King's Beach, but not much. The beaches are also known for a smelly algae that only grows here and some place in Australia. It didn't seem to smell bad when we were there. In the summertime, the beaches are often closed to swimming due to high levels of bacteria. The water is not tested in the off-season, so we stayed out of it. Dogs are allowed on the walkway year round, but not allowed on the beaches from April 1st to September 15th. The walkway and Red Rock's Park are nice. They provide views of the ocean as well as the Boston skyline to the south. The sunset over the water and the Boston skyline on the walk back provided some great photo opportunities.
