I picked this trail because the snow was cleared off. When it comes to bike trails, this is the exception, not the rule. We started at Bedford Depot Park, where the Minuteman Bikeway meets up with Narrow Gauge Rail Trail and the Reformatory Branch Trail. We headed southeast along the Minuteman trail to the Lexington town line, where we continued for another mile and a half or so, before turning around and heading back. Even though the snow was removed, there was still some icy parts along the Bedford section. It was an enjoyable walk on a very sunny, but chilly, afternoon.

We were at Bedford Depot ten days prior when we walked the Bedford section of the Minute Bikeway. We walked that trail because the snow was cleared off, and I noticed that the snow was also cleared off of this trail, which also starts at Bedford Depot. What I didn't realize was that the paved portion only lasts until the trail reaches Veteran's Memorial Park at "The Great Road". After that, the trail is stone dust, and not plowed. The snow was packed down from this point forward, and we were able to easily keep going. We continued north on the trail, and also checked out York Conservation Area and Fawn Lake Conservation Area while we were at it. After Fawn Lake, we turned around and headed back the way we came, walking about five miles total.

This was the fist of two conservation areas we checked out while walking the Narrow-Gauge Rail Trail. We hiked a half mile loop through the woods that utilized the Bay Circuit Trail and led us back to the bike trail. The trail was packed snow, and easy to traverse. The pine trees made for some nice scenery on this short excursion.

This was the second conservation area off the Narrow-Gauge Rail Trail we visited while walking that trail. This one features a loop trail around the lake, but we had already walked nearly three miles on the day, and still had to head back, so we skipped that trail and just headed for the frozen lake. We walked out on the ice a bit, before heading back to Bedford Depot on the rail trail.
