This is the multi-use trail, also known as the Housatonic Rail Trail. We walked the section from the Whitney Avenue parking area, north into Monroe. This section is pretty nice. It passes through a number of town parks, Parlor Rock Park, Old Mine Park, and Spring Hill Park. It has a paved surface here in Trumbull, but changes to stone dust when it crosses into Monroe. The weather could not have been any better. That, combined with a nice trail, made for a great walk! We came back a few days later, and did the other section, south of the parking area. This section has a stone dust surface, and goes through some mostly wooded areas. Much of the trail has been carved through the rock, remnants of the construction of the old rail line. We also explored a couple of side trails that provide access to the river. We returned over a year later and walked the southern most portion of the trail in Trumbull. We entered from Beardsley Park in Bridgeport, and continued north about a mile. This segment crosses under Route 8, and continues running along side Quarry Road.

We passed through this park when we were walking down the Pequonnock Valley Greenway, and stopped to take some photos. It's a good thing we parked at the trail parking and walked here, because parking at the park itself is permit only. You have to be a resident. I saw parking tickets on a bunch of cars as we passed through.
