Stratford Seawall

Date visited: 12/16/2021

This was a brief stop. Unfortunately, dogs aren't allowed on the beach here. The sign didn't say anything about them not being allowed on the seawall!

Long Beach

Date visited: 12/2/2022

When I saw this trail on the All-Trails map, I thought this would be entirely a beach walk, but there is actually a trail here. The trail runs through the middle of the "barrier beach", with the beach facing Long Island Sound on one side and a salt marsh on the other. The trail itself is sandy, and actually sandier than the beach, which is mostly small stone and shell. According to the Town of Stratford's website, dogs are allowed on town beaches from December through March, but I'm pretty sure the sign at the beach entrance had different dates listed. (There are also "No Dogs Allowed" signs but the sign at the entrance takes precedent). The trail eventually transforms to a paved trail that used to be some sort of road that connects to Pleasure Beach in Bridgeport. We continued on to that beach as well before looping back. We alternated walking on the beach and the sand trail. This is not the most scenic beach. The smokestacks in the background do not serve to add any charm to this beach.

Short Beach Park

Date visited: 2/3/2024

What's that big bright yellow thing in the sky? Seriously, it had been almost two weeks since the sun was out, so it was great to get out and enjoy some nice sunshine. This is the first of three stops we made on this day. This is sort of the companion to Long Beach. This beach is more of a complete park, with playgrounds, ball fields, a golf course and a walking path. I thought this beach was nicer and offered better views than Long Beach, but parts of it were littered with garbage. We walked the length of the beach, and the walking trail. It added up to just over three miles. At one end of the beach is a connection to the trails at the Audobon society conservation area. There was a very polite sign indicating dogs were not welcome, so we turned around and headed back at that point.

Sikorsky Estuary Walk

Date visited: 3/6/2021

This is the pedestrian walkway over the Sikorsky bridge that connects Stratford to Milford and the Merritt Parkway with the Wilbur Cross Parkway. There is a paved walking trail on the Stratford side that leads up to the bridge that goes near the river and offers some views.
