This was a neat place. There's a campground and hiking trails that cross the railroad tracks and go down by the river. There are picnic areas off the trail as well, and we stopped at one to take a break. It was a gorgeous day, and I remember thinking just how perfect it was in that moment.

We haven't been doing many "escape to nature" type trails lately, but this one certainly fits the bill! Sprague Land Preserve seems to be a massive area. We drove down a long, narrow, bumpy, dirt road in the middle of nowhere to get here. There are a few different trails to chose from, each are very well labeled with wooden signs. While the "Fairy Trail" sounds interesting, we hiked the "River Ridge Trail." As you can imagine from the name, the main part of the trail runs right along the ridge parallel to the Shetucket River. This is about the nicest walk in the woods you're going to find this time of year! The surrounding forest is almost entirely pine trees, that stay green year round. There are a couple brand new metal benches, and some nice wooden bridges. One bridge had a sign that read "Troll Toll Bridge. Fee to cross: Name three things Thankful for". I immediately thought I'm thankful for Mandy, Lexi and the fact there is a bridge here and I don't have to walk through the stream! A short section of the trail dipped into the neighboring town of Scotland, and you can see the picture from that section on that page. Some dirt roads were utilized to form a loop. Toward the end of our loop, we took a short detour and walked a part of the "Waterfall Trail" up to Little Muk Falls. There was also a large open meadow that looked like it could be a golf course. It seems like great effort is spent maintaining this preserve. It was a little bit eerie though, as we didn't pass a soul the entire three mile hike. It's such a nice spot, you'd think others would be utilizing it on such a nice afternoon.
