This was our 2022 Easter Morning Hike. We've been tackling more challenging trails of late, and this one was a challenge. My Apple Watch recorded 543 feet of elevation gain here, most on the second half of the hike because it was all downhill at first! The loop was supposed to be about 3 miles, but we took a detour to the scenic overlook, and made one wrong turn which required us to backtrack a bit, so we hiked about 4 miles total. The path started out nice and wide, but got really narrow when we hit the "River Trail". The stone benches are quite interesting. I couldn't help but wonder if the benches were built in place with nearby stones, or if someone had to transport the stones here to assemble the bench, or if the bench itself was constructed elsewhere and carried down the trail somehow. It is a mystery!
