The Dinosaur Place

Date visited: 1/17/2021

This wasn't a planned stop. On the way back from Harkness State Park, I drove by this place and decided to get out and check it out with the dogs. "The Dinosaur Place" was closed, probably because of COVID, but I could still take some photos in front of the T-Rex. In the plaza, there was also some sort of antique shop with some interesting things on display outside.

Montville Conservation Center

Since our only other previous visit to Montville featured what was basically a nice walk through a shopping center parking lot, I have been looking for other places to visit in the town. There were no trails listed in the All-Trails app that allowed dogs, but I came across a map for this place while searching the net. There are two short loop trails displayed on the map called "Main Trail" and "Brook Trail," as well as some unnamed "foot paths." The two named trails were okay, but the foot paths were overgrown and portions were flooded and un-passable completely. The highlight of the place was Beaver Pond, which is aptly named. We saw a beaver swimming around the pond.

Hopemead State Park Reserve

Date visited: 6/25/2021

This is a small state park that features a wide, flat walking trail that leads to Gardner Lake. The lake sits on the corner of Bozrah, Salem and Montville. This park is not to be confused with Gardner Lake State Park, another small State Park on the Salem side of the lake. This State Park is situated in both Bozrah and Montville. The path itself is in Bozrah, but turns south and enters Montville. There are a few nice access points to the lake. The first picture below was taken from a small rock that sits just off the shore of the lake. There wasn't a lot of room on the rock. The dogs got out there okay, but both fell in the lake briefly trying to jump from one rock to another on the way back. You can see that their rears are wet in the second picture.
