There are four different sections of the Scantic River State Park in Enfield. The Powder Hollow section, East, West and South sections. Also, part of the East Windsor section extends into the edge of Enfield as well. We visited all of them this year, and the pictures below span all five sections. None of the sections are connected. They are divided by main roads and lack of any sort of river crossings. The Powder Hollow section is the best of the lot. The dogs were in a really co-operative mood that day. They posed so well for the pictures. The Powder Hollow and South sections feature interesting old ruins. The East and South sections extend into Somers.

When I was real young (like five and six years old), my family lived near this park. The park is on Brainard Road. I don't know why the park name is spelt differently than the road. The park includes two baseball fields, a volleyball court, and a playground. In the back of the park, behind one of the baseball fields, there is actually a trail that runs adjacent to the water company property. Out of curiosity, we went down the trail as far as we could, but we came to a point where it was flooded and couldn't go any further. Well, we might have been able to go further. There was a narrow walkway made of sticks that might have been built by beavers, but I decided against it. The park section is pretty nice, and is a good place to take your dogs for a walk if you are in the area.

This is some town owned open space behind a neighborhood in the "Southwood Acres" section of Enfield. When I was a kid, I used to hang out here quite a bit. This area was more of a field back then. Now, it seems that some of the local residents have extended their backyards into the area, as some of it is manicured quite nicely and trees have been planted. Unfortunately, some locals also use the area for their ATV's.

Just across the street from the Town Green is this park area. I've seen it called D'Aleo Park on some maps, but the town's website just calls it Freshwater Pond. There's a few different walking paths here. One runs along side North Main Street and on one side of Freshwater Brook. This one features a few fishing piers, and a historic Thompsonville placard. Another one runs along the other side of the brook and circles an apartment complex. The third one is a short loop across North Main Street that runs behind the Town Hall. The pond is created by a dam on the opposite end of the park from the Town Hall. I grew up in Enfield, and even worked one summer at the Town Hall when I was home from college, but never walked on these walking trails before today. We walked a total of one and three quarters miles here on a sunny March afteroon at lunch time.

I was in town with the dogs running an errand, and decided to take the dogs for a short walk around the library grounds. There's actually a small park here, complete with picnic tables and a playground. There's a very short stone dust walking trail that circles the library. We expanded our walk to include the area around the athletic fields located next door at Eli Whitney School. We managed to walk just over a mile here.

This is a very small park in the Scitico section of Enfield that features a skate park, a playground and a community garden. I stopped here because I could see the tall sunflowers from the road driving by. The paved walking path goes over Terry Brook and ends between two houses on Webster Road. The park isn't really big enough to be a good place to take your dog for a walk.

I was out walking Mandy & Lexi while visiting family nearby, and came across the Enfield Fire Department's 9/11 Memorial located in front of the firehouse on Weymouth Road. The tribute includes two beams from the actual World Trade Center. There is a monument, a small garden, and some benches.
