This is another Joshua's Land Trust trail in the towns of Ashford and Willington. The stand-out feature of this trail is the picnic area, complete with lawn furniture that just sort of appears in the middle of the trail.

Our Thanksgiving Day hike was the Knowlton Preserve, a Joshua's Land Trust property in the towns of Ashford and Mansfield. The property resides on both sides of Knowlton Hill Road, and features a mowed grassy area near the parking area, and a wooded section that runs along side Knowlton Pond, but never gets real close to the water.

We visited this place about a month and half too late, because there were no Mountain Laurels. What is there, is an old dirt road, named Snow Hill Road. During Mountain Laurel season, the flowers supposedly line the roadway. This time of year, it's just a straight forward walk down a dirt road. We did see a couple jogging that had two dogs that were wearing some sort of antenna (I didn't get a picture). They were going up and down the road, and we passed them three times. I asked about the antenna, and they said it was some sort of GPS used for hunting. Although it was sunny when we started the walk, we just made it back to the car before a downpour. The road crosses over the town line from Union into Ashford. The two pictures below are from the Ashford section.

This is another Joshua's Trust trail in Ashford. The best part of the trail is the right of way that connects the parking area to the rest of the trail. It goes right through a farm. There's a pen with goats, but the chickens are roaming free. I think they kept their distance because of the dogs. The rest of the trail is pretty standard. There are three blazed trails here. The yellow trail circles the edge of the property, the blue trail is a shortcut through the center of the property, and the orange trail is a short trail that goes up to an overlook area with a view of a meadow. None of it is that exciting, but it's well marked and maintained, and more importantly, dry this time of year!

This was not our planned stop. We were headed elsewhere but the weather wasn't cooperating. The whole week was bad in fact. We didn't get to go on our adventures because of the bad air quality from the Quebec fires. I've driven past this park many times and always wondered what was here. There's a gazebo and some sidewalks in front of what looks like an apartment complex. The Ashford Senior Center is also here, as well as a tennis court, a war monument, and a very short stone dust trail through the woods. Of course, it started to drizzle as soon as we got here, but the sun came out by the end.
