I decided to embrace winter on this trip (as opposed to what I usually do, ignoring it and going to a a beach or someplace where you can't tell that it's winter from the photos). This trip was actually very fun, and a change of pace from the places we've been visiting lately. We walked a paved, three and a half mile loop trail around the property. Of course, the pavement was covered with packed snow and a sheet of ice, so it was slippery in places. The trail is very scenic. I enjoyed the east side of the loop more. That part of the trail featured pine trees and Pearce Lake. There is a beach area for the lake, which was frozen on this visit. In the summer dogs are not allowed on the beach. There are many side trails, some of which lead to different parts of the lake, and I'm sure there are places for the dogs to cool off in the hot weather. The reservation is mostly in the town of Saugus, but a small section crosses into Wakefield, so be sure to visit that page for photos from that section. Mandy loves the snowy hikes, Lexi prefers the warm weather, but everyone had a good time regardless.
