The Ashokan Rail Trail is an 11.5 mile, wide gravel trail that runs along side the Ashokan Reservoir. We will never be able to hike the entire route because there are only three trail heads, and they are spread too far apart. Remember, we're on foot and have to walk directions. I started at the middle trail head, the Ashokan Station trail head. We walked about three quarters of a mile, when I realized that I would never get to the more scenic part of the trail near the reservoir. At that point we turned around and headed back to the car, where I drove to the Woodstock Dike Trail Head and walked that section instead.
