This is another one of those paved rail trails in the Turners Falls section of Montague, that crosses the Connecticut River into Deerfield. The entire trail is about four miles long. Much of it runs right along side the canal. The crossing over the Connecticut River is on an old retrofit of a rail bridge built in 1880. One troubling part on this walk, was our encounter with a loose dog near the bridge. At first, I wanted to keep my distance, but the dog turned out to be friendly. He appeared to have escaped his electrirc fence because he had one of those collars. There were some bikers and other walkers who were around at the time, and one said she saw the dog running after a rabbit nearby. A couple teens on bikes tried to lead the dog back to the area where they believe he came from, but the dog took off. The teens on the bikes went to follow him, but I don't know if they ever found the dog or if he ever made it home. The dog looked thristy, so I offered him water when we were on the bridge, but he wouldn't take any. I hope he made it home.

This small park is across the street from the Canalside Rail Trail.
