The Dutchess Rail Trail is a 13 mile paved bike trail that runs from Hopewell Junction to the Walkway Over The Hudson in Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County. The trail is part of the larger Hudson Valley Greenway, itself part of the much large Empire State Trail which sets out to link New York City, Albany, Buffalo and the Canadian Border with paved bike trails, though much of it is still "on-road". We walkled the segment that ran from the parking area at Gold's Gym in LaGrange to the bridge over Wappinger's Creek on the border of the Town of Poughkeepsie and LaGrange. This might be the most boring stretch of rail trail we've ever walked. There is a "Drug Overdose Memorial" at the Gold's Gym parking area and a bridge over County Route 49, but then nothing really until the multi-segment bridge on the border of the Town of Poughkeepsie, except for a number of benches and some informational signage. We covered about 2.5 miles of the trail, 5 miles total out and back.
