It was Columbus Day weekend, and I had a three days off, but unfortunately there was a Nor'easter baring down on the northeast. I checked the weather and saw it would be mostly sunny in the Syracuse area, so we embarked on the three and a half hour drive to this park. Unfortunately, the sunny skies didn't really last, as the clouds seemed to roll in minutes after we arrived. Of course, it wasn't pouring rain here like it was in our usual area, so that was a plus! We walked about a mile and a half of the "shore trail", a paved trail that runs along the shore of Onondaga Lake, before turning around and heading back. There are a few spots along the route with access to the lake. Views of Syracuse can be seen across the lake. On our way back, we walked out on one of the fishing jetties, just as the sun peaked out. This section of the park is just one section of a large park that spans multiple towns. It's pretty nice, but normally not worth a three and a half hour drive. On this day, it served its purpose, as it got us away from the storm. According to the forecast, it was sunnier east of here, so we actually headed an hour east to Rochester next.
