Here's our first trip to the beach in 2024! The day was washed with sunshine throughout the region, so it seemed like a good day to go. Dogs are allowed on either side of the beach in the off-season, but require a "dog walking permit" in the summer months. The beach has a detailed website, with a three page document that contains rules and regulations. They also have an active social media presence, and I was able to confirm on Twitter (I guess it's "X" now), that I could bring the dogs in the off-season (Sep 16th through Mar 31st). This is a barrier beach along a narrow peninsula. You can see the tip of Provincetown in the distance looking south from the ocean side. In the off-season, only the resident parking lot is open. It's accessed by either a very bumpy dirt road via the town of Marshfield, or over the wooden Powder Point Bridge. We started off on the ocean side, and walked about two and a half miles down the beach. The beach is very long, we couldn't walk the whole thing. There are a series of three "crossovers" that permitted vehicles can use to drive from a dirt road and "crossover" to the beach. At the third crossover, we used it to cross over to the bay side. We walked the dirt road back. This side offered some more varied and different views. Once we returned to the parking area, we explored the bridge. We walked about 5 3/4 miles total.

This is a wooden bridge, according to Wikipedia, it is the oldest and longest such bridge in North America. It is the only connection from mainland Duxbury to Duxbury Beach. The bridge carries two lanes of traffic, and a pedestrian walk way, with a speed limit of 10 MPH. You can hear the wood "thump" as you drive over it. We walked the entire length of the bridge and back after our beach adventure. There's a small beach area on the other side, as well as a building that looks like a lighthouse. There is a cement stone indicating the original bridge was built in 1892, and rebuilt in 1976, however other sources indicate the bridge was rebuilt in 1987, after fire damaged the original bridge.
