I had picked this state park as a possible adventure last fall, but didn't have enough time to do it while the weather was nice. In October, we were actually heading here, but then I decided to go to Atlantic City instead at the last minute. This time we actually made it! It was a bright sunny day in the mid-60s, pretty nice for November! Dogs are allowed between September 16 and March 31 in most of the park, except for the cement walk way, and the nature trail. The park was pretty busy, as the parking lot was nearly full. We arrived at 1:30, and they close the gates this time of year at 4, so we had time to explore. The lighthouse is the main attraction at the park. It's at the tip of Long Beach Island, a 24 mile long island off the coast of southern New Jersey. Beyond the lighthouse is a rock barrier that runs across the northern tip of the island. We walked on the sand along the rock wall, about a mile total, until we reached the ocean facing beach on the eastern shore of the island. That beach is called Long Beach on the map. We continued south along the beach for a mile and a half before turning around and heading back the way we came. This was a fun walk on a very nice day.

This is the ocean facing beach on Barnegat Light's eastern shore. We started at the north end, reaching the beach from the State Park. We headed south along the shore for about a mile and a half. I was able to let the dogs play a bit. They love running around the beach! Mandy went in the water a bit, but Lexi avoided it, since the water was kind of cold. It was sort of an "in-between" beach day. Temps were in the mid-60's, it was sunny with very little wind. I was wearing shorts, a t-shirt and sandals and was very comfortable, and enjoyed walking along the edge of the waves. Last November we had a few warmer days where we headed to the Jersey Shore, but it's been more seasonable this year. This was the closest we are going to get this year to a summer-like beach day in November!
