Woodstock

Roseland Park

Date visited: 2/6/2021

This is a nice park in the town of Woodstock. It was unusual because of the different buildings, some of which you can go inside. They were open to the air, so it wasn't like you were truly indoors by any means. Despite being the middle of winter and a half foot of snow on the ground, people were barbecuing and picnicking.

Crystal Pond Park

Date visited: 3/27/2022

Formerly known as "Camp Nahaco", Crystal Pond Park is jointly owned by the towns of Woodstock and Eastford. As town parks go, this one is pretty nice. It was formerly a Boy Scout Camp, but hasn't been used as a camp since the late 70's. The towns purchased the property from the Boy Scouts in 2003, and fixed it up after years of neglect. In 2017 it was renamed to Crystal Pond Park. The disc golf course seems to be the main attraction, but the park is also used for hiking, fishing and swimming. Leashed dogs are welcomed here, which isn't always the case at these types of parks. There are two signed trails, "Cove Trail" and "Trout Pond Trail". We hiked the "Trout Pond Trail", which is mainly in the Eastford section of the park. Trout Pond is nothing special, but it was a nice hike. My main issue is that the trails here aren't on the All-Trails app, or on the Mapbox/Open Street Map maps that the All-Trails maps are based on. I couldn't find any sort of trail maps online except for some hand drawn ones that aren't to scale. Once we reached Trout Pond, I didn't know if the trail looped back around or kept going, so we actually completed the loop by walking on the road back to the park entrance. Once we got back to the regular part of the park, we explored some more. It was a chilly, raw day (very unusual, as it's been so unseasonably mild lately). I think we would have enjoyed the park more if the weather was nicer. Mandy would have been able to sit in the pond! The pictures below are from the Woodstock section of the park. Be sure to check out the Eastford page for pictures from that section.
