West Hartford

West Hartford Reservoir #5

Date visited: 6/26/2020

The trails around the West Hartford Reservoir's are very popular. The parking lots close early, we just got in before the closing. I thought the place was pretty cool. There are some other sections of trails we'll have to come back and explore.

West Hartford Reservoir #6

Date visited: 7/2/2020

Maybe not quite as nice as the #5 Reservoir, too much of this trail was not shaded. We came early in the morning to beat the heat (and to get in before the parking lot closed), but it was still very hot along one side of the reservoir. It got better on the other side when there was more shade. The loop trail briefly dips into Bloomfield as well.

Elizabeth Park

Date visited: 7/24/2021

This is a very popular place for pictures. There were multiple wedding parties doing photos here, as well as photos for other events. It was a gorgeous day, and the park was quite packed. As such, we did not get a lot of opportunities for photos. We walked around the loop trail and checked out the rose garden. The pups encountered their first salsa band as well.

Beachland Park & Trout Brook Trail

Date visited: 6/15/2021

Trout Brook Trail is a multi-use paved trail. There are two sections in West Hartford that are connected by a regular sidewalk. We walked the southern section that can be accessed from Beachland Park. Half of the trail runs along side Trout Brook Drive, the rest of it follows Trout Brook out to New Park Avenue.

Rockledge Golf Club Winter Trails

Date visited: 3/13/2022

This is really cool, and I wish other golf courses did this. In the winter, this course becomes a series of walking trails that are open to the public. Even the dogs are allowed! They even have three color coded trails that are blazed and everything. The only issue was that one of the bridges was out and the path just sort of ended without warning. We had to walk through the green to detour around it. We had a snow and ice storm the day before, so some sections of the paved trail were slippery, but we managed okay. I had heard about this place but forgot all about it. Once I remembered I wanted to do it while it was still technically winter because once the golf course re-opens for the season, the trails are closed to the public until the next winter.

Blue Back Square

Date visited: 2/5/2022

We seem to be stopping at shpping centers a lot lately. This was the day after an ice storm, so trails were real slick, and shopping center sidewalks are always clear. It was raw out, but after being stuck in the house all week, the dogs (and myself) needed to get out. We walked around the area for about a half hour, before the wind really started ripping and it got too cold.
