This is Connecticut's oldest state park. It is located on the site of General Putnam's winter encampment during the revolutionary war. The camp was used during the winter of '78 and '79....that's 1778 & 1779! There are sections of the park on either side of the street. We only visited the "historic" section with the monuments and exhibits. There's a gravel loop trail that features informational placards on the different exhibits. There is also a short trail that leads to the musueum, which was closed. A small section of the park extends into neighboring Bethel, and pictures from that section can be found on that page.

This is a state park that spans parts of three towns, Redding, Bethel and Newtown. We visited the Redding section. There are some cool statues near the parking lot, but I couldn't find a good way to get a picture of the dogs with the statues since they were elevated, and since the dogs were tired.
