Bayley Beach Park

Date visited: 3/16/2023

This is a town beach located in the Rowayton section of Norwalk. Dogs are allowed from November through March. I didn't realize that this was an "off-leash" dog area until I arrived. There were maybe 20 other dogs and their owners on this small, but nice beach. The pups were all over me, as they could smell the treats I had in my pocket that I use to get Mandy and Lexi to pose for pictures. This is why there are more candid shots here, than the posed shots, although I was finally able to get some nice posed pictures on the far end of the beach. You can see below that this one dog photobombed me while I was trying to take a photo. The dogs had fun here, running free on the beach. There's no real place to take the dogs for a walk here. The beach is on the small side and we had to go elsewhere afterward to get a walk in.

Cranbury Park

Date visited: 3/12/2021

I liked this place. There is a parking charge in-season, but this nice day in March was considered off-season so it was free. There were a bunch of loud guys hanging out drinking near the lot when we arrived, but no sign of them when we hit the trails. The trails also were a disc golf course, and there were a lot of people playing frisbee golf. I've seen that at alot of the places we visit. We came upon a wide open space with a bunch of dogs running around off-leash. Evidently, this spot is used like an off-leash dog park. Mandy was confused, because there was no fences, but she got the hang of it. Since there is no big and small section, I kept Lexi leashed mostly, because she does not like big dogs all that much.

Norwalk River Valley Trail

Date visited: 2/12/2022

It was a great spring-like day in the middle of February, with temperatures near 60 degrees! Skies were overcast, so the weather wasn't quite as nice as the day before, but still a wonderful treat to have a day like this at this time of year. This is part of a multi-town trail that is still being built. We covered the completed sections between the aquarium and Union Park (which seems to be just a small area with an empty platform). The trail connects a number of parks in downtown Norwalk, most notably Heritage Park and Mathews Park. The trail is paved except for the section that runs through the cemetery. Yes, that's right, the trail goes right through a cemetery. It also passes by Lockwood Mathews Mansion, and a children's museum. Near Heritage Park, we also walked the Spc. Wilfedo Perez Jr. Loop Trail that runs along side the river. There are signs at the parks that said dogs weren't allowed, but there were many people walking their dogs.

Norwalk Town Green

Date visited: 8/19/2025

We started our four mile walk through the center of Norwalk here at the town green. The weather was much sunnier than initially forecasted, and with the cooler temperatures in the mid-70's, it was a perfect day for a nice city walk. This town green is really nice, with lush grass, plenty of flowers around the gazebo, and a fountain. From here, we headed to the center of town and Mill Hill Park.

Mill Hil Historic Park

Date visited: 8/19/2025

This was a stop on our walking tour of Downtown Norwalk. This is a park that features three historic buildings, the Meeting House built in 1835, the Little Red Schoolhouse built in 1826, and the Governor Fitch Law Office from around 1740. Also featured is a "colonial herb garden", and the Mill Hill Cemetery.

Downtown Norwalk

Date visited: 8/19/2025

We visited a number of parks on our walk through Downtown Norwalk, that started and ended at the Norwalk Town Green. The pictures in this section are ones from along our journey that aren't taken in any of the specific parks we've visited. These are mostly from Wall Street and West Avenue. There seems to be a degree of gentrification happening in this part of Norwalk, as new high-end apartments and shops are being built. In fact, a lot of the new buildings weren't here the last time we walked through this area, back in the winter of 2022.

Mathews Park

Date visited: 8/19/2025

This nicely maintained park in the center of Norwalk features both the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum and Stepping Stone Museum for Children. Also here is Fera Park, a small garden area, and Devon's Place, which is mostly an elaborate playground. We walked through here as we were exploring Downtown Norwalk. There is conflicting information on the net about whether dogs are actually allowed in the park, but I didn't see any signs indicating that they weren't, and there were other dog walkers present too. We had actually walked through this park three and a half years prior, as part of our Norwalk River Trail adventure. It was a sunny summer day for this visit, so the park looks much nicer than it did on our previous trip through here.
