We came here to hike the loop trail defined in the All-Trails app. The trail is a wide, stone dust trail. The curated trail in the app is just a segment of the trails available at this park. While the trails are nice, they are honestly the least interesting thing about the park. The centerpiece of the park is the large mansion, known as "the castle." There are gardens, statues, a theater, an art gallery, and other structures as well. One interesting thing to note, according to Wikipedia, actor Christopher Lloyd once lived in the mansion.

This was a fun visit! There are two main sections to this place. The first is the area in and around the Visitor's Center. There is a farm with animals, a garden, a sugar house, dinosaur footprints, and an educational area for children. Behind this area, are the "North Woods" that features a series of trails. Some of the trails are built up on a elevated wooden boardwalks, many of which look brand new. There is also an observation tower that we climbed as well. The New Canaan Land Trust Greenlink Trail that leads to Irwin Park can be accessed from here as well.

This short New Canaan Land Trust Trail connects the New Canaan Nature Center to Irwin Park, via a crosswalk at the intersection of Weed Street and Wahackme Road. (Those are the real names of the roads. 10 year old boys in this town must love it!) It meanders through the woods across some very nice bridges over wet areas. The short section that runs along side Weed Street changes to a stone dust trail.

This is a nice 36 acre park that features a mile long "Flexi-Pave" loop trail that circles the park. We arrived at the park via the Greenlink Trail that connects to the New Canaan Nature Center. We walked the entire loop trail before heading back to the Nature Center. This a very popular spot in the town for dog walking.
