The highlight here is the tower. In 1903 Columbia University purchased this track of land, previously used as farm land, to use as a summer camp, and built this observation tower. The camp closed in 1983, and became a State Park in 2004. There is also an old buildng on site that was the "instrument house". We hiked a short trail that leads to the tower. The dogs were good sports as they climbed to the top of the tower with me. The inside stairwell is new, and wasn't a problem. It leads to the spiral staircase that wraps around the outside of the tower. Mandy was quite nervous on this part, but she's a trooper! Both dogs were rewarded with treats for their efforts!

White Memorial Conservation Area is a large area of land owned by the White Memorial Foundation in the towns of Litchfield and Morris. The foundation was founded by May and Alain White, in order to preserve the land from development. This is the Apple Hill trail that consisted of a short hike up a wide trail. It eventually leads to the top of the hill with an observation deck and a great view of Bantam Lake.
