Hartland Recreation Area

Date visited: 3/25/2021

This is another situation of finding a place that looks interesting, and then being utterly disappointed when getting to said place. I don't think Hartland Recreation Area is a real place, at least not anymore. There was a trail that was blocked off with what looked like yellow police tape, due to a fallen tree that was never cleaned up. We went around it, came across an opening, but there really wasn't anything there. There's a small pond with a man-made waterfall that you can see from the road, but that was pretty much it. At least we got some nice photos.

Charles & Lois Beach Nature Preserve

Date visited: 4/5/2022

Our second visit to a place in Hartland wasn't much better than our first. This nature preserve, owned by Hartland Land Trust wasn't that great. The trail isn't on the All-Trails app, so my only guide was the rough map on Land Trust's website. It seemed accurate enough, and the trail was marked well. The real issue was after the trail passes the gas line, it was overgrown and muddy. We wound up turning around and heading back, only walking about 7/10th of a mile total here.
