This is one of our favorite places to visit. During the off-season, it's commonly known as "Jennings Dog Beach". It is basically a dog park on the beach. Click the links below to read about each of our adventures here.

I found out about this place on BringFido.com. During the off-season, it's commonly known as "Jennings Dog Beach". It is basically a dog park on the beach. This time around, there were signs indicating dogs must remain leashed because of COVID. The rule was not being followed too closely, as there were a number of dogs running around off-leash. It was pretty neat, but Mandy and Lexi stayed leashed for the most part. We also walked the length of the beach. It was really nice. You can't really tell it was the end of February from the pictures.

We came back a second time on an absolute fabulous day in mid-October. Temperatures were in the mid 70's with lots of sun! You couldn't ask for better weather! This trip was less about the walk, and more about letting the dogs play free on the beach. Dogs are allowed unleashed from October 1st to March 31st here, so it's basically a dog park on the beach. Of course, the weather was so warm, that there were plenty of sunbathers as well...and even a few people swimming. Mandy and Lexi loved running and playing on the beach, and Mandy could take quick jaunts to the water to cool off is she got too hot. They had a blast!

Our third visit here was on a warm, foggy, day in early March. This was the busiest of the three times we visited. We walked for about two miles down to Penfield Beach and back. After that the dogs ran around off-leash.

Our fourth visit here was on a warm Friday in mid March. We arrived after hiking at Pine Creek and Ash Creek. Since we had already done our walks, I brought the pups here just to play. Unfortunately they were too tired and didn't play all that much, so we explored the area near the rocks on the part of the beach near the Bridgeport border. They did invade a picnic. Fortunately, the women loved the dogs and didn't mind.

Fairfield seems to be really dog friendly. Like Jennings Beach, dogs are allowed off-leash here, except when within 100 feet of a parking lot or picnic area. The beach area is also off limits for the dogs. I kept the dogs on the leash in the woods. We hiked a two mile loop around the lake. There are a number of spots where the dogs can take a dip. The trails here are very well maintained. This was one of the nicer loops around a lake we've walked. I don't know what the deal is with the Big Foot sign. We didn't encounter any Sasquatches.

We celebrated the first day of December, by going to the beach....because that's what normal people do! Well, at least that's what normal people do that have dogs that love the beach! This one is not as nice as Jennings Beach where dogs can be off-leash, but was nice enough. Like many beaches in the state, dogs are only allowed in the off-season. Mandy loves walking right on the edge of where the waves hit the sand. It was a bit too cold for her to do the lay down in the water thing that she likes to do. We walked the length of the beach and back, about 1.7 miles in total.

The trails here are on open spaces owned by the Town of Fairfield. These trails traverse a salt marsh. They branch out like a tree starting at the parking area off Old Dam Road. The branch directly to the right at the start of the trail is the nicest. It's path runs along the top of Pine Creek dike, and ends at a very nice area with access to the water where Mandy was able to take a dip to cool off. We did the middle branch second. This was the least nice of the three. It went up a hill and portions of it were very muddy. I actually had to carry the dogs over small section of this trail. The end of this trail opens out to a paved walking trail that leads to the senior center, where you can access the last branch. We were able to make a loop out of it and did not have to walk back through the mud. Other than that one muddy area, this was a really nice walk.

This is another open space area owned by the Town of Fairfield. This one is very near to one of our favorite places, Jennings Beach. In fact, when you walk to the end of the point, you can see the beach just across the water. There's no access to it from here, unless you want to swim. The other part of the trail starts behind the South Benson Marina, near a small playground. This is a short walk, and there is also access to the water here, where dogs can go in and take a quick dip.

This beach was a pleasant surprise. Like the other Fairfield town beaches, dogs are allowed Oct 1st through March 31st. The beach looks super small, but according to the sign, the public is allowed on the adjacent waterfront up to the "median high tide line." We headed northwest toward Sasco Beach, a beach we visited just over two years prior. We walked around a bend, where we encountered a fancy building of some sorts. I think it belongs to the Fairfield Country Club, but I'm not sure. We of course stopped to take pictures in front of it. We also checked out the grassy area behind the building. We probably weren't supposed to be there, but we didn't stay there very long. There's a short rocky area before Sasco beach, but since we had already visited that beach, we turned around and headed back. We walked just over a mile here total, and headed to nearby Southport Beach next.

This is another Fairfield Town Beach that allows dogs from Oct 1st, through March 31st. This beach is not as nice as South Pine Creek Beach, which we visited first. It didn't really look like there was any place to swim here. It was all muddy past the sand, before there was any real water. Of course, it's December, and we weren't planning on going in the water anyway. There is a jetty that we walked, and also a marsh area that has a short trail. We walked about a mile here total.
