Mendell's Folly is a Bethany Land Trust property in the towns of Bethany and Beacon Falls . According the sign, the property is the gift of Tibby Mendell in memory of Clare Mendell. The path in the All Trails app was entirely in Beacon Falls, but we did some of the Bethany section as well. We crossed the street in Bethany, and continued a bit for the trails on that side of the street. The trail had the land trust signs and may be part of Van Epps Preserve.

We hiked the enitre length of the blue blazed Whittemore Trail. That makes it sound like more of an accomplish than it really was. The Whittemore Trail runs a little less than a mile, from the trail-head on Rt. 42 to the intersection with the Naugatuck Trail, another blue blazed trail maintained by Connecticut Forest & Park Association. It features a pretty good climb, and with all the leaves on the ground, it was quite slippery. This place is only about a half mile away from Mendell's Folly, which we tackled on our previous trip to Bethany. Across the street is Veteran's Memorial Park which features a lake and a walking trail. It looks nice, but parking requires a permit so we didn't go there.
