This is a massive state park, with over 5000 acres of land! It was also very busy on a sunny Sunday afternoon in the autumn. There is a $10 fee to park year round. Dogs are allowed in most of the park, but not the area near the zoo. We stayed mostly in main section of the park, by the Bear Mountain Inn. We also hiked the paved loop trail around Hessian Lake. (The north end of the loop trail veers into the town of Highlands). The Appalachian Trail is routed over part of the loop trail. This was a fun, easy and scenic walk, and well worth the price of admission.
