This is a short rail trail contained entirely in the town of Spencer. We started at the parking area on South Spencer Street. The trail proceeds downhill until it reaches whats left of the pond. At the pond, there is an informational sign about the Howe family, a prominent family that resided in Spencer. Evidently Elias Howe Jr. invented the lockstitch sewing machine. After the pond, the entire route features a gradual incline. It passes by O'Gara Park, before ending at Chestnut Street. There were two women's softball games going on at the park when we passed. It looks like the trail at one time continued, or was planned to continue, across Chestnut street, but it's overgrown now. There's even a stop sign facing the other direction. We returned the way we came, walking just under four miles total. The trail doesn't really stand out as anything special, but was still a very pleasant walk.
