Needham Town Forest

We were headed to the parking area for the Bay Colony Rail Trail on High Rock Street. You have to walk through some connecting trails through the forest to reach the rail trail. On our return trip, we cut through some other trails through the forest to get back to the car.

Bay Colony Rail Trail

This is a 1.7 mile stone dust surfaced rail trail through the town of Needham. We parked at the parking area off High Rock Street, and walked some short connecting trails through Needham Town Forest to reach the northeast end of the trail. Beyond this point, it looks like you can walk the tracks, but it's not a surfaced path like the rest of the rail trail. We headed southwest on the real trail, and continued to the end just before Redwing Bridge over the Charles River. The bridge is fenced off, as it's still a train track and not a trail. There were teenagers who managed to get up on the bridge, and were jumping off into the river below when we were there. We also passed a large grassy area, with a mowed trail, but didn't explore that too much since it is prime tick season. We headed back the way we came, but took a short cut through the forest to get back to the parking area, walking about 3.5 miles total on this trip.
