Bidwell House Museum Trails

Date visited: 8/9/2022

It's amazing that I can drive an hour and fifteen minutes away and encounter such different weather. It was 96 degrees, with 78% humidity in the Hartford area, but a refreshing 77 degrees when I arrived in Monterey. The sunshine was an added bonus! The Bidwell House was built in 1760, and is now a museum of some sort. The house used to be the center of town, but now it's the middle of nowhere. There are six miles of trails that are open year round during daylight hours. We hiked a 2 mile loop trail, that starts at the house and garden and goes through the woods. The trails features stops along the way with informational signs about what the property. There are numerous trail segments with names like "Turkey Bush Trail" and "Meeting House Trail". Along the way, there is also a "Champion Oak Tree", which as you can imagine from the name, is a really big oak tree! There is also a large cairn (stacked rock pile) of "unknown origin". This was a fun walk, and a good way to escape the uncomfortable weather back in Connecticut.
