This is a multi-use paved path that follows the Neponset River through Milton and Boston. We started at the Neponset Esplanade Park, near the intersection of Routes 28 and 138 right on the Milton/Boston border. We were initially going to head southwest, but that route just runs along side Brush Hill Road, so we headed the other direction. The trail utilizes two busy crosswalks to cross Route 28. The "push button to walk" thing on the crosswalk did not seem to work, so we had to run across. The trail crosses the bridge into Boston right near Mattapan Station, then heads east along the north side of the river. (Pictures from the Boston section are on that page). There is a fair amount of trash along the trail, but I guess that should be expected for Boston. The trail crosses back into Milton via the Harvest River Bridge built in 2017, and runs in between the train line and the river. We continued until we reached the Central Avenue train station. We crossed into Boston near the station on another paved trail that leads to a trail head at Baker Square Condominiums. After that, we crossed back into Milton and walked through the town area near the train station. The trail continues to Neponset Park, but we turned around here and headed back the way we came, walking about 4.5 miles total.
