Ludlow

Facing Rock Wildlife Management Area

The original plan for today was to go to Chicopee Memorial State Park, but when I got there I saw that it cost $30 to park with out of state plates. I quickly used the All-Trails app on my phone to find something else that wasn't too far away, and came upon this place. Once we got here, the plan was to walk a 3 1/2 mile loop trail, but starting the loop clockwise, we got a mile in and the trail was completely flooded out. It looked more like a pond, than a trail. So we turned around and back tracked to the other side of the loop, counter-clockwise. This portion followed a gravel road that led to a power line cut-out. We hiked up to what is called Jefferson Peak. It wasn't that scenic. Meanwhile, a fleet of utility trucks were making their way down the gravel road. We kept having to dart into the woods on the way back to get out of their way, because the gravel road was very narrow. Then it started to rain, and then a loud family had an un-leashed dog that lunged at us. All in all, it wasn't a great day.
