Fort Foster

Date visited: 5/6/2023

This is a beautiful place. There is a great trail that runs along side the rocky shoreline. There's a small beach near the pier where dogs are not allowed, but they are allowed throughout the rest of the park. There are plenty of places along the trail for douglas to take a dip, and Mandy and Lexi did just that! The rest of the loop trail involves a short walk through the woods, and walking along some park roads. Also near the pier, is the old fort which is fun to explore. This was Mandy and Lexi's first ever trip to Maine, and it was a fun adventure. Keep in mind, there is a $20 charge for non-residents to enter the park. They charge by the carload, but also charge those walking or biking in as well.

Maine State Visitor Information Center

Date visited: 4/8/2024

This is the rest area and welcome center on I-95 about 3 1/2 miles past the New Hampshire border. The visitor center itself has limited hours, but the restrooms are open 24 hours. Dogs aren't allowed in the visitor centers, or even around the outside of the building. There is a separate "pet exercise area" designated for them. I think we stopped here both times we went to Maine, but only stopped and snapped a couple pictures the second time, before heading to the York beaches to view the solar eclipse.
