Hyde Park

Vanderbilt Mansion National Historical Site

Dates visited: 1/28/2023 & 2/5/2023

Our first vist here was a very enjoyable walk on a 50 degree day at the end of January. Only problem, was that I forgot to take a picture of the actual mansion. Yes, I have shots of the dogs on the steps of the mansion, but I completely forgot to take a picture of the whole thing. As far as our walk was concerned, We started off right near the mansion, and then explored the gardens, which probably look better in any other season other than winter. We then hiked the loop trail that goes down a steep hill and runs parallel with the railroad tracks and the Hudson River. There's a spot on one end of the loop where we took a detour down to an area right along the river, before heading back up the hill. Oh, and there's a waterfall too! All in all, it's a pretty nice place. We were able to walk 3 1/2 miles here. I won't get into the historical significance of the place, you can read up on it on Wikipedia for that. Scroll down for our second visit, where I actually took some photos of the actual mansion!

We were in the area the following weekend because my wife wanted to go to a shop in Poughkeepsie, so it made sense to stop and actually take some photos of the dogs in front of the mansion. This time, we took photos from all the sides of the mansions, and on some of them, you can actually see the whole building! There are a few extra pictures in front of the Visitors Center as well.
