Olana State Historical Site

Date visited: 11/2/2022

Olana was the home of noted artist Frederic Church, who designed the 250 acre compound. Church was actually born in Connecticut and is known for his painting of "The Charter Oak". He later moved to this spot and named it "Olana". The site offers tours of the property, and includes trails that connect to the Hudson River Skyway, a walkway over the Rip Van Winkle Bridge across the Hudson into Catskill. There's a wonderful view of the skyway from a lookout area atop the hill. We were a few weeks too late for peak foliage, but I imagine the view would have been much nicer then. I originally decided to walk the skyway as well, but changed my mind because Mandy does not like heights, and would have had a real tough time with it. We walked the area around the property, which had plenty of great views. We covered about two miles here, with many scenic landscapes along the way.
