This is a wonderful state park situated on Wolfe's Neck peninsula in the Casco Bay region of Maine. There are a series of well maintained trails through the woods and along the coast on both sides of the peninsula. There are a few different places to access the shore along the east side of the peninsula. There are fantastic views of Googins Island, a noted osprey habitat that is closed off to the public. We hiked a 3+ mile loop around the island. The trail is rugged in places, but a generally easy walk. There are plenty of photographic opportunities along the route. Even the wooded portion stands out. Leashed dogs are welcome, so this is a great spot to enjoy with the pups! There is an admission fee. It was $6 for an out of state adult. The fee is charged per person, not per car, so be aware that it could be pricey if coming with a large family. We had a great time exploring this park, and I recommend it highly if looking for a place to go with dogs in this part of Maine.

This downtown area doesn't feel like the standard New England tourist town we normally visit. This one is highly commercialized, and is centered around the LL Bean headquarters and flagship store. There are a number of different outlets as well, with a few "mom and pop" type shops mixed in. It's the LL Bean properties that stand out. Unfortunately, the Discovery Park, a main attraction, was closed for construction. LL Bean is launching a 50 million dollar "re-boot" of their flagship property. The iconic "LL Bean boot" was off-limits, so we had to settle with pictures in front of the "re-boot boot-moblie". (We actually did take a photo in front of the LL Bean boot earlier in the year located at their Cranston, RI location). We explored a bit of the downtown area outside the outlets, but it definitely lacks the small town charm other tourist towns have. The area is very dog-friendly however, and many of the shops allow you to bring your dog inside. It's an okay stop if you want to go shopping at the outlets with your pups, but if you're looking for that small town New England charm, look elsewhere.
