Falmouth

Nobska Light

Date visited: 2/23/2025

This is a historic landmark in the Woods Hole section of Falmouth. The current lighthouse has stood in this spot since 1876. There are only five parking spots, so this must be an impossible place to visit in the summer time. From the lighthouse grounds, there are scenic views of Buzzard's Bay, Vineyard Sound and Nantucket Sound. We also walked down to Nobska Beach, a narrow strip of sand and rocks on the other side of Church Street. This is likely a private beach, but there were other people walking it on this day, including four twenty-somethings and their dog who actually went swimming!

Trunk River Beach

Date visited: 2/23/2025

This is a thin, cobble beach that runs between the Shining Sea Bikeway and the shore. The eastern end may be a private beach called Quisset Beach, and I've even seen it labeled on maps as just "Falmouth Beach". It's hard to know where one beach ends and another begins, especially this time of year when beach borders aren't patrolled. There is a decent size free parking area, which I imagine fills up quickly in the summer time. We took a few photos on the beach, and headed up the bike path to continue or walk.

Shining Sea Bikeway

Date visited: 2/23/2025

This is a scenic bike path that runs through Falmouth. We only walked a short portion of this, from the Trunk River Beach parking area to just past Oyster Pond, before heading down Elm Road to Surf Drive Beach.

Surf Drive Beach

Date visited: 2/23/2025

This is a long beach that runs between Surf Drive and the shore. Dogs are allowed on Falmouth Beaches from October 1st through April 30th. The western end of the beach is mostly private, with the public area on the eastern end. There was some construction going near the public end, as it looks like they may have been building a new parking lot. It's not the nicest beach we've visited on the Cape, but it gets the job done if you're looking for a nice walk.
