Some maps show Peebles Island completely in the town of Waterford, but others, including Google have it located in Cohoes. At any rate, this is a pretty cool state park located on an island in the middle of the Mohawk river, just before it empties out into the Hudson. We mainly walked the perimeter trail that circles the island. The trail is on an elevated cliff most of the way, but it's not difficult or dangerous, unless you are really careless! The weather was fantastic, and this was a fun hike.

This is part of the Empire State Trail, and this section is also known as the Delaware Avenue Hike Bike Trail. We crossed the Black Bridge from Green Island, and walked the length of the trail up to Peebles Island State Park. The trail runs along side Delaware Avenue for most of it's length in Cohoes. We took some side quests while on this trail, first visiting Van Schaick Park, and then following a dirt trail on the other side of the road that leads to an unnamed fishing area overlooking the Hudson River. Also, right off the trail is the Van Schaick Mansion. This stretch of trail includes plenty of poop bag dispensers and garbage cans, and was very clean. It made for a nice walk on a pleasant afternoon.

While walking on the Black Bridge Trail, we stopped to check out this park. There's a gazebo, monuments, some tennis courts, and benches. There is also a fountain in the middle of the small pond. It wasn't busy while we were here on a Wednesday afternoon, but I imagine it gets quite busy in the evenings with all the apartment complexes nearby. It seems like a nice park to just relax and take in the day.
