It was such a gloomy weekend in Connecticut, I took my chances with one of my four weather apps reporting the chance for sunny skies two hours away in Claremont, NH. Luckily, the app was right, and there was about a one and a half hour window of sunshine, and we arrived just in time to enjoy it! We were heading to the Bobby Woodman Trail, but the GPS brought me to downtown Claremont. Since the sun had just come out, I figured I'd park here and find the trail later. We walked around the downtown area, around Pleasant and Broad Streets, through Opera House Square and Broad Street Park, and over to Monadnock Park, where we found the Bobby Woodman Trail.

This is a city park with playgrounds and athletic fields. It's pretty standard as far as parks go. We arrived here after walking through Downtown Claremont. We walked through the park, entering from Broad Street, and picked up the Bobby Woodman Trail on the other side of the park.

This is an unusual multi-use trail, linking Downtown Claremont to the busy commercial strip on Washington Street, and to the Sugar River Trail. The trail is hard packed stone dust mostly, with some short paved sections. We picked the trail up near Monadnock Park, and headed east. The trail passes behind houses and across the Sugar River on an old railroad bridge. After the bridge, the trail runs alongside Washington Street, lined with strip malls and fast food restaurants. This is the first time I've seen a stone dust trail like this run along side a busy street. Usually the "city" type trails are paved. According to the signs along the trail, ATV's are not allowed, but snowmobiles are! Shortly past the Home Depot, the trail separates from the road slightly and heads to a small parking area where the trail becomes the Sugar River Trail. We turned around at this point and headed back the way we came, but when we reached the park we continued along the trail to it's end at Pleasant Street. From there, we headed down Pleasant Street back to the downtown area where we parked, completing our nearly six mile adventure through Claremont.
