Myles Standish State Forest is a massive, 12,000+ acre forest of mostly pine trees. We hiked the East Head Loop, a loop trail around East Head Pond, the largest of the 21 ponds found in the forest. The west side of the pond is in Carver, and the east side is in Plymouth. The path is very scenic, especially in the winter. The Carver side was icy, but not as bad as the eastern half of the loop on the Plymouth side. This is likely due to the western side catching more sun in the warmer afternoon hours, since it faces the pond. This was a pretty nice hike, about three miles total. We barely scratched the surface of this forest, as there are many other trails here, including a bike trail that leads to Cape Cod. Pictures here are from the Carver side. Visit the Plymouth page for pictures from that part of the trail.

This was a great 2.5 mile hike through a gorgeous pine forest on a bright winter afternoon. The highlight of the trail is the suspension bridge. It wobbles as you walk over it, and it's not as safe as the one in Vernon, CT. That one has fencing on it so you can't fall off. It is definitely possible to slip off this one if you're not careful. Mandy and Lexi were real troopers here! The rest of the trail was pretty easy, and made for a great winter adventure.
